Impact is answered from the graph, not from a spreadsheet. A change gate is advisory for uncertified assets and blocking for certified ones.

Decisions

  • Impact is answered from the graph at query time, not from a maintained dependency list. A list is wrong the day after it is written.
  • The change gate is advisory for uncertified assets and blocking for certified ones. Blocking everything gets the gate switched off within a month.
  • A 90-day deprecation window with a visible catalog banner on every downstream consumer, so nobody learns about a retirement from a failed job.

Targets

  • Drift detected within one harvest cycle — 1 hour for incremental sources.
  • Blast radius query to 5 hops returns in under 2 seconds.
  • Additive changes are logged and not notified; alert fatigue destroys this feature faster than any defect.

Depends on

  • Accurate ownership. An impact notification with no owner to send it to is the failure mode this view assumes away, and view 18 measures.
