How to play
Guess the five-letter word in 8 tries. Simple, except there is no word.
Every guess must be a real word. Each tile changes colour to show how close you were, just like Wordle:
Why it is evil
The imp never picks a word. After each guess it sorts every word it could still be by the colours your guess would get, and quietly keeps the biggest pile. Your colours always come from that pile.
So the word keeps moving. You win when the imp has nowhere left to hide: one word left, and you name it.
Tips
- Watch the hiding spots counter. Every guess should shrink the imp's biggest pile, not just find letters.
- Grey letters are free information. Spread new letters across your early guesses.
- In the end game, guess a word that splits the last few apart, even if it cannot be the answer.
- Stuck on an obscure word? Peek shows three of the imp's hiding spots (your result gets an ๐).
- The sharpest opener for this dictionary leaves the imp at most ALOES ยท 311 hiding spots.
Settings
Pick 6, 8 or 10 guesses, or play endless. Hard mode makes you use every hint you find. Your matches and stats stay in this browser only; there is nothing to sign up for. Play as many matches as you like.
