Why retirement closes it
- A model left mounted holds working-set memory the next candidate needs. Capacity, not tidiness, is why retirement is a lifecycle stage with an owner.
- Production watching is per language: a model can improve the mean and lose a language nobody on the team writes.
Assumptions
- Weekly candidate cadence; two models live at steady state plus the previous version mounted for 72 hours.
- Drift is detected against a held-back control arm rather than against the model's own history.
Risks
- Every arm costs working set. The number of models the fleet can hold warm is a hard limit on how many experiments can run at once, and it is reached long before the statistics are.
